When a smartphone is stolen or lost, there is no end to worries about the security of important information stored there. To alleviate this concern, Google has updated the Theft Protection technology based on the Android operating system. The company claims that the update to the Theft Protection technology will further reduce the risk of revealing personal information from a stolen or lost phone.
Google said that the new update to its Anti-Theft Technology has further enhanced the control of the ‘Failed Authentication Lock‘ feature. As a result, if someone tries to unlock using the wrong PIN, pattern or biometric information multiple times, the phone’s screen will automatically lock. At the same time, the scope of the ‘Identity Check’ feature will be expanded to mandatorily verify users’ biometric information if someone tries to change sensitive settings.
The new update brings several changes to reduce the risk of unwanted logouts. Not only that, but the addition of new security measures to the Remote Lock feature allows users to quickly lock lost or stolen Android phones through Google’s Find Hub. As a result, users can ensure the security of the information on the phone remotely through Remote Lock.
According to Google, these features will be available gradually on all phones running Android 10 or later. However, authentication-based security features will only be available on phones running Android 16 or later.
