Google’s rolling out its AI-powered ‘Project Genie‘ app, letting users create their own interactive virtual worlds from scratch. You’re not just watching these worlds—you can actually explore them.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced it on X, explaining that Project Genie combines Genie 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Gemini technologies. He shared a demo video showing an astronaut walking through a user-created space station.
How It Works
Creating a world starts with “world sketching.” You provide instructions—either text descriptions or images—and the AI builds out environments, characters, and structures based on what you’ve asked for. You can even upload a photo of an object to use as reference material.
Once your world’s ready, you can move through it from different perspectives. There’s also an option to modify or rebuild virtual worlds that other users have made on the platform.

The Catches
Project Genie has some limitations right now. Virtual worlds max out at 60 seconds of viewing time. The visuals aren’t always perfectly realistic either—some scenes look a bit off.
For now, the app’s only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.
